Self Practice

When you join a yoga class at a studio, you are often empowerd by the people around you, which makes you feel stronger and work harder than you normally would. However, when you are on holiday, when you are not able to attend your regular classes and practice on your own, you may tend to slack off without the attention of those around you. However, it is better than doing nothing and it is a good opportunity to take a good look at yourself through your own practice. I would highly recommend practising yourself. Some days of no practice will slow you down and your motivation will tend to drop accordingly. Some people find it hard to attend the next class and quit. It is important to start something, but it is even more important to continue, and the more you continue, the more valuable it becomes. In yoga, it is important to practise regularly and constantly, and I think it is the same in other exercises. My Zen master used to say that do not skip your practice for more than 3 days. It is like starting all over again what you have built up and it becomes difficult to move on.

I recommend owning your own mat to keep you motivated and to practise regularly. I recommend that you buy a higher quality mat which will last longer and you won’t have to worry about slipping and not being able to concentrate on your poses. Manduka PROlite I use in my studio is not that heavy, is portable and has a good grip. If you don’t carry it around, I also recommend Manduka PRO, which is a very heavy mat weighing about 3.4kg, but it lasts a long time and can be said to be a lifetime.
